Abstrakt Vape Co – Abstrakt Line

All bottles from Abstrakt were 60mL Chubby Gorilla V3’s at 3mg nic strength.

Ratio: All were 70VG / 30 PG

Here’s a new to Canada line that indicates it is bottled by Fat Panda out of Manitoba. Abstrakt was founded in the first quarter of 2015 and was founded by Matthew Babela. Abstrakt is an American E-Juice brand out of Southern California. The classy labels feature a geometric logo and there are currently 5 of their flavours available in Canada: Strawberry Jam filled Doughnut, Strawberry Kiwi Belts, Mixed Berry Candy, Watermelon Candy and Strawnana Smoothie.

Just a side note: future labels will not have the description on the bottle to adhere to labeling regs.

Let’s speak briefly with Marcel from Abstrakt:

Bringing new lines almost seem a risky venture now, what was your vision?

Well, Abstrakt was actually started in the first quarter of 2015 in the USA. So, we aren’t a new company by any means. We are just now expanding into Canada. A lot of e-liquid companies out there just try to pump out new flavours to satisfy everyone, but we believe in quality. Each of our recipes go through vigorous R&D for several months and aren’t released until we are 100% happy with it.

What was the inspiration for the name?

To us the name wasn’t our #1 focus. Our focus was creating quality e-liquid with a company that stands behind its products and customer service. The name was just a random suggestion during dinner one night, and it stuck.

Some of your flavors are familiar. What was your inspiration for the profiles and what’s going to set these apart?

They are indeed familiar, which is exactly what will set us apart. We’ve worked for years now honing in on our signature taste. Just as a film maker has their signature editing, or a music producer has their signature sound, you will be able to pick out our familiar flavors from the others just by our signature taste profile.

The bottles were all Chubby Gorilla V3’s and arrived in good shape. Labels are strikingly simple with the Abstrakt geometric logo and come with all necessary info and warnings – and all include a batch number and “best before” date. It was mentioned to me that bottles I received were freshly made – so I allowed them to steep for two weeks.

For ease of testing, I’m going to use the same setup for all – BB Vapes B2K with a 5 wrap 28/36 N80 Staggered Fused Clapton on a 3mm bit – using a VW mod. The resistance is around .5 ohms and I’m vaping around 30 watts +/- depending on the profile – fresh cotton every flavor change. Let’s take a look at the five individual flavours available in Canada:

*Dough Boy – Strawberry Jam filled Doughnut – A delicately fried doughnut sandwiched around a layer of gooey strawberry jam, with vibrant notes of cream and brown sugar. “Don’t be JELLY”

Flavour Accuracy: 8.5/10
Overall experience
: 8.5/10

Light, cakey dough on the back-end is dominant – more so with a hot build. Strawberry filling is sweet and jam-like. Vapes a touch light but pleasant. I don’t get much cream, and only slight hints. Faired far better at high wattage.

Dime Piece – Strawberry Kiwi Belts – Tantalizing strips of tangy strawberry and tart kiwi, tossed in a light layer of sugary goodness… a perfect “10.”

Flavour Accuracy: 8/10
Overall experience
: 8.5/10

The strawberry came through a little light on this one for me as well. Overall, it wasn’t unpleasant as a do enjoy kiwi. The kiwi does come across with prominent sour notes with a sweet after-taste. Candy vapers will like this one.

*PRPL Pack – Mixed Berry Candy – Five wild berries bursting with fruity, juicy flavor! – A whole new rainbow to experience.

Flavour Accuracy: 8/10
Overall experience
: 7.5/10

Hard to pick out the five berries. Raspberry, blueberry, strawberry for sure… blackberry and cranberry would probably be my guess for the other two based on the aftertaste. Vape it hot to bring out the tartness. This profile needs the heat to make the flavor “pop”.  Needs a touch more flavor intensity as it vapes with a slightly “dry” feel.

*The Plug – Watermelon Candy – An astonishingly accurate watermelon hard candy.

Flavour Accuracy: 8.5/10
Overall experience
: 8/10

Meant to mimic a Jolly Rancher type of candy – The Plug isn’t far off. Sweet but the watermelon has just a touch more natural feel to it but still has the candy sweetness. Decent.

*The Classic – Strawnana Smoothie – The ultimate in classic fruit combinations – subtle, sweet strawberries and natural, ripe bananas, blended into a light milk and cream base. It’s literally like vaping a smoothie.

Flavour Accuracy: 7.5/10
Overall experience
: 9/10

On both smell and taste, banana is dominant. I only get lighter hints of strawberry but I enjoyed the way this one actually tasted. Borders between fresh and sweet banana, but mixed with the smooth “shake” aspect, it is quite pleasant.

Final Thoughts:

The Plug and PRPL Pack are clear – Dime Piece has just the slightest coloration and these three weren’t particularly harsh on coils or cotton. The Classic and Dough Boy were the darkest and expect average coil and cotton life. Vapor production for all was on point for 70/30.

Abstrakt shows us a mature line-up. The flavors are familiar, not overly complex – but well done with Strawnana being my favorite. The US has the advantage of having a few more profiles plus “Iced” and salt versions not yet for sale here in Canada. I experienced mixed results using mid-wattage builds – Abstrakt flavors will fare far better in higher wattage builds and tanks. I ended up trying them in high wattage tanks like the Freemax Mesh with what I thought were better results.
