Honest review time: Coil Master DIY mini kit V2

Here’s something I don’t get too many of to review. It’s a new DIY kit from Coil Master called the DIY mini kit V2. Coil Master if you’re not familiar are a company who are probably best known for their 521 tabs and build kits. They’ve also been producing some great gear recently like RTAs and even some mechanical mods as well. I’ve already posted a review of their Elfy rta which I really enjoyed and have at least one more review coming but today we’re taking a look at The Coil Master DIY mini kit V2.

Having used the new DIY mini kit for the past few weeks I’ve got almost nothing to complain about, it comes packed with all the tools one generally needs to build and maintain your coils. The ceramic tweezers included in the kit are well made and the tips line up perfectly so pinching while pulsing coils will be a breeze while the included diagonal stainless steel tweezers are great for dropping your wick in to place and making sure it’s all tucked in nicely. The pliers in the kit probably get the most use for me and although they are small they work really well and so far haven’t accumulated any gouges out of the tips. The stainless steel folding scissors aren’t my favorite as I’ve always struggled with opening and closing them but the ones in the kit so far have been working well and do a good job cutting cotton and such.

Now probably the most crucial part of any build kit is the coiling rods which in the DIY mini Kit v2 they’ve opted to not include dedicated rods and instead includes a dual purpose multifunction screwdriver and screwdriver bits which they call screwdriver winding rods. They include all the most common sizes 2, 2.5, 3 and 3.5mm with each having a different tip so the 2 and 2.5mm rods are setup as h1.2 and h1.5 hex keys while the 3 and 3.5mm rods are setup as Philips head and a Flat head drivers respectively. They work great for wrapping your coils and for tightening down your leads but the challenge comes when you’re wrapping a 3mm coil using the 3mm rod but your deck screws are also Philips since you can’t do both at once. It’s not a big deal for me since I usually have another set handy but if you’re traveling and typically wrap 3 or 3.5mm coils and your deck screws are primarily Philips or flats you might have a bit of a challenge.

No it doesn’t come with a tab device for checking your resistance but it’s a mini kit so it’s expected it does however comes with pretty much everything one might need safely packed in a durable hard cover case that should make it a great travel companion. The dimensions of the case are approximately 190 x 100 x 25 mm. All of the included tools are of good quality and should serve their purpose well. One thing to note however with the actual case is there isn’t any space for extras like your wire or cotton. Those will have to travel separately. Aside from the two small criticisms I really don’t have anything to complain about with the new kit.

Overall:

The Coil Master DIY mini kit v2 is pretty much ideal for on the go building. It gets rid of a lot of extra bulk that some of the other kits might have. On top of all that it’s extremely affordable so it would be ideal for someone just getting started. The rigid plastic case seems durable so should hold up well when tossed in your backpack or wherever. So all that’s left are the big questions:

Will I keep using this thing? Absolutely, I was actually in need of some new plies and tweezers so it was a welcome addition to the collection.

Who do I think this is for? I think it would be ideal for any new vapers looking to get in to building or for any seasoned vapers looking for a durable and portable DIY kit with pretty much everything one would need.
