Honest review time: Odyssey Cosmic Sours: Apple and Grape

Here’s a look at a couple new flavours from one of my personal favorite juice companies, Vapour Artisans. The new flavours are actually an addition to an exiting line called Odyssey Comic Sours, a series of flavours with a slightly sour twist. I enjoyed the originals so when I heard they were adding a couple new flavours of course I wanted to try them out. Here are my honest thoughts on the latest flavours in the Odyssey Cosmic Sours line from Vapour Artisans.

Bottles/Packaging:

The juices come in clear 60ml authentic Chubby Gorilla bottle with the same sort of space Odyssey inspired labels the originals had but varying slightly in colour and design depending on the flavour. Being an 80’s kid I personally love the look of the labels as they remind me of graphics you would’ve seen on so many video games and movie posters back in the 80’s. The juice comes in a 70vg blend and the set I got was in 3mg. It’s also available in a salt version which comes in a 50vg blend and the ones I tested were in 15mg.

Setup:

For the salt versions testing was done in a Berserker MTL RDA with a simple 30g kanthal build, about 6/7 wraps on a 2.5mm coming out to about 1.8ohms and running between 10-15w. I also tested them in a fresh Coilart Bron pod as well as a GoldenRatio from OneTech.

For the freebase version testing was done mostly in a Hadaly clone with a three core alien(3×28/36ni80) build from the Canadian Coil makers SaddleHorse Blues, 4/5 wraps on a 2.5mm coming out to 0.28 ohms and running between 35-45w. Using Puff cotton, rda rinsed and rewicked in between. Click here for a shot of the build.

Odyssey Cosmic Sours Grape:

Site description: Odyssey’s Cosmic Sours brings you the freshest hand picked grapes with a unique blend of complimentary fruits to bring you a sweet and tasty grape combination.

My thoughts: Traditionally I’ve not been a fan of most grape flavours, at best they tend to be fairly artificial tasting and at worst they often taste like medicine. With Grape I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised at the mix they’ve created. Don’t get me wrong it still has a bit of that artificial grape candy taste and it’s what hits me up front but it’s beautifully paired with an exotic yet familiar taste.

To me it tastes like jack fruit or dragon fruit but it’s hard to put my finger on it. Something with a bit of body that gives it an almost creamy aspect, thickening it up and adding a borderline tropical taste to it. I know that I’ve tasted it before but mixed with grape it takes it in a completely different direction.

The candy taste of the grape being the more dominant it tends to come off soft and sweet. It’ll be a familiar taste for nearly anyone who’s tried a grape flavour or experienced a grape lollipop or freezie in real life but with that little added taste of the exotic it’s definitely not your average grape flavour.

I found with the salt version I tend to get more of the grape and less of the other fruit but in the subohm version it’s pretty much the inverse. Now remember, this line is based on sour flavours but from my experience with them the sour aspect is quite mild that anyone should be able to enjoy them even if you’re not into sour flavours.

Odyssey Cosmic Sours Apple:

Site description: Bright green apple with a wonderfully delicious hint of honeydew melon creates a perfectly sour full-bodied taste like you just left the orchard.

My thoughts: This is another different take on a classic flavour. With Apple I get a nice bright mix of crisp green apple and sweet honeydew melon. In a bit of a twist from Grape, honeydew melon flavours are one of my absolute favorite to vape and being paired up with some green apple surprisingly works really well.

I’d almost venture to say that the honeydew is the more forward note in the mix as it comes on quite a bit stronger than the green apple. I still get a nice taste of the green apple but honeydew is a pretty strong flavour so I’m not really surprised that it tends to come out on top. What I feel the apple really does it bump up the authenticity of the melon making it even more juicy and fresh tasting.

It’s not overly complex so it likely won’t alienate anyone trying it and with the two familiar flavours paired together I think it’ll be a nice treat for fans of either green apple or honeydew melon. It’s just different enough that I wouldn’t call it a standard green apple flavour nor would I decidedly call it a honeydew flavour.

I’m almost always down for an interesting mix of fruit flavours and this one definitely falls under the category of different. This one too incorporates a touch of sour but much like the rest of the line it’s a mild addition so it won’t irritate the throat and really just adds a hint more complexity to the juice.

Final thoughts:

There’s a reason I’ve long been a fan of Vapour Artisans, they make really good stuff and their Odyssey Cosmic Sours line is no exception! These new flavours perfectly compliment the rest of the line which is sort of in between candy and fruit flavours. Yes they have a sour twist to them but it’s mild enough I think anyone would enjoy them. If you enjoy bright fruity flavours with a very light sour twist these are definitely the ones to check out!!
