Honest review time: Road Trip from Pyxydust and SOAK

Here’s a look at a collaboration project between Pyxydust Vapes and SOAK Liquids called Road Trip. Pyxydust are the people that brought you Angel, the best in show award winning flavour from CVE Edmonton 2017 and SOAK are the guys behind SOAK liquids and Dr. Pibblesworth. Two companies that are well known for their incredible juice. This year they teamed up and went on a road trip, an actual road trip and brought with them a new line called Road Trip ejuice. It’s not really clear where it will be available yet but I know a number of shops already have some from their cross-country trip. Here are my honest thoughts on Road Trip ejuice.

Bottles:

The juices come in clear authentic Chubby Gorilla bottles with colourful labels sporting an image of a VW styled bus driving through the mountains surrounded by clouds. All the usual good stuff we like to see in fine print along the sides and bottom. I think they have a nice fun theme to them and look great but unfortunately the labels don’t list the actual flavours just the names. The juices pg/vg ratios vary slightly so I’ll list them with the descriptions below. The set I got was in 3mg

Setup:

Testing was done mostly in a Hadaly clone with a three core alien(3×28/36ni80) build from the Canadian Coil makers SaddleHorse Blues, 4/5 wraps on a 2.5mm coming out to 0.28 ohms and running between 35-45w. Using Puff cotton, rda rinsed and rewicked in between. Here’s a shot of a fresh build:

Joy Ride

Pyxydust and SOAK

Site description: Take your taste buds for a joyride with a great strawberry candy accented with luscious blackcurrant. 75vg

My thoughts: Joy Ride to me is like one of those strawberry hard candies that come in the strawberry patterned wrapper. I imagine almost everyone is familiar with them with their iconic candy wrapper and sweet strawberry hard candy taste that Grandma always seemed to have laying around. It’s pretty different from most other strawberry flavours I’ve tried and I’ll admit I’m pretty relieved it’s not paired with cream. It is definitely on the sweet side but it is meant to be a strawberry candy after all.

The description mentions black currant but I have a hard time picking it out in the mix. I figure it’s probably adding to the thick almost syrupy sweetness of the flavour which really beefs up the candy like taste. Really the flavour centers around the bright sweet flavour of a strawberry hard candy which is exactly what it tastes like. A bit too sweet to be an ADV for me but fans of strawberry and candy flavours will appreciate this one!

Pit Stop

Road trip Pit shop

Site description: Rough day? Long drive? Take a pit stop and refresh your face with juicy strawberries and a mouth-watering watermelon with bright kiwi undertones. 80vg

My thoughts: I found Pit Stop to be quite a bit like Joy Ride but with a slightly different focus. In Joy Ride I found the strawberry took the lead and didn’t let much else shine through whereas with Pit Stop I’m finding that the watermelon really takes the lead and puts the strawberry and kiwi in the back seat. It too is on the sweet side and for me comes across like a watermelon hard candy with the sweetness coming from the strawberry and a hint of tartness coming form the kiwi. Not quite like a watermelon Jolly Rancher but something pretty close to it.

Of the other notes in the mix I hardly taste the kiwi at all and even the strawberry kind of loses itself in the blend but I feel like it’s what gives it it’s sweetness and hard candy sort of vibe. The kiwi might help cut the sweet thickness of the flavour but really doesn’t shine through much on its own. It’s pretty much all about the watermelon in this one but a hard candy sort of watermelon and not a fresh slice of the summery treat. I’ll admit I’m a fan of watermelon flavours so I won’t have any trouble working my way thought this one. Again this one will do well with fans of watermelon and candy lovers and should make for a nice summertime vape!

Blinker Fluid

Road Trip Blinker Fluid

Site description: Blinker fluid doesn’t exist but this decadent cream puff is so real. 80vg

My thoughts: Blinker fluid is much more my speed and was the clear winner of the bunch for me. With Blinker Fluid I get a nice sweet vanilla cream with a powdered sugar kind of taste. It has a sort of eggy pastry note which reminds me a bit of a profiterole or cream puff. There’s something else in it though which I can’t quite place, it’s familiar but what it is exactly eludes me. It might be something in the cream or vanilla but whatever it is it adds a bit more richness and depth to the flavour. It does remind me a bit of a cannoli flavour with the thick cream but doesn’t quite have the spice factor most of them have.

For me Blinker Fluid is mainly just sweet creamy vanilla goodness with a very light pastry note throughout. This one too is a touch sweet but not nearly as sweet as the other two and moves away from the hard candy taste the others focused on. This is the sort of thing I could vape all day and from the time I cracked open the bottle I’ve hardly set it down. Fans of rich creamy dessert type vapes would do well to add this one to their lists.

Overall:

I thought the line was quite well done. Sweet candy flavours usually aren’t my thing but the whole line came off nice and clean tasting without any harsh chemical tastes or anything. All three should make for nice summertime vapes and would make great companions on an actual road trip. Being that they are a touch on the sweet side they might not be for everyone but fans of sweet candy and cream flavours will definitely want to check this set out!
