Smok – Mico Kit

By @vaperscanada

Smok radically changes their pod design from the elongated style of the Novo and Nord and changes to a square – resembling their competitor the MiPod. Checking in a bit smaller than the its rival, the Mico has dimensions of approximately 56 x 46 x 15 mm. Simplicity is design and usage make this an ideal pod for vapers on the go. As I tend to say with pod reviews, don’t expect to move to this from a dripper or 8 coil tank and expect it to be a good replacement. Don’t let your expectations exceed what these devices are capable of and you’ll be satisfied.

Let’s take a closer look at the SMOK Mico Kit:

Specs:

Size: 56.3 x 46.5 x 14.8mm

Capacity: 1.7ml

Battery: Built-in 700mAh

Material: Zinc Alloy

Resistance: 0.6-2ohm

Output Power: 10-26W

output Voltage: 3.3V-4.2V

Charging: 5V/0.37A

**Disclaimer: None – product was purchased for review.

The Mico comes in a sleeved box with a foam insert. Everything was secure upon arrival. TBH, it’s a great little package. The Mico and two different pods were in the foam – underneath the insert was the lanyard, charge cable, instruction manual and warranty card. The Mico comes with protective plastic covering the resin sides – be sure to remove them.

Fit and Finish: The body material is listed as a zinc alloy frame. The “panels” have a resin finish that has mixed colors. I found that I loved some color combos and didn’t really care for others – I opted for the black and white. The Mico has some weight for its size and checks in at 65 grams. With the way it’s designed, the Mico feels like a quality product in your hand. Pods are held fairly tight magnetically and fit snugly without movement in the slot.

Pods: The pods are side-fill and  have a 1.7mL capacity. They appear to be SS and plastic and claim to use a “special” cotton to provide optimal flavor and vapor. Silicone stopper on the side of the pod covers the amply sized fill-port. The pod features gold-plated magnetic contacts. It also has the mouthpiece – similar in style to the Novo and Nord pods. There are three options available –  0.8ohm MICO Mesh Pod, 1.0ohm MICO Regular Pod (one each included in the kit), and 1.4ohm MICO Ceramic Pod.

Safety Features: 8 second cut-off, short circuit protection, low voltage protection

Usage: On/Off switch and indicator light are on one side. The power switch is large enough you don’t have to fiddle around with it. The light indicator flashes when turned on or off and also functions as the battery meter. The Mico is draw activated so there’s no fire button. There are also no adjustments that can be made. Auto-draw has worked flawlessly and doesn’t require a hard draw to activate. The Mico is very simple to use. USB charge port seems durable, but remember with these devices, they will typically only last 600 -800 charge cycles depending on your charging habits.

Vape Quality: I’ve exclusively used the 0.8 ohm mesh coil with traditional nic ejuice. The mesh coil provides a nice warm, flavorful vape with decent cloud production. Flavor rendition is excellent with the mesh. I’m vaping with a 70/30 ratio and have had no issues with wicking so far. I will only suggest not using nic salts with the mesh. The draw is loose – loose enough to draw a restricted lung hit. For a true MTL, you’d have to draw much slower or switch to the 1.0 ohm regular pod. If you opt for the 1.0 ohm, switch to 50/50 ratio ejuice.

Overall: The Mico comes as a great little kit. You can try the regular coil and the mesh without having to buy extra coils to try. The SMOK branded lanyard is functional and actually decent. The Mico feels solid and like a decent quality product – not like some of the throw-away plastic systems. The vape quality from the mesh justifies this purchase – but – if you jump on this train, buy coils right away. By far, my biggest concern with recommending a SMOK product is that the coils end up being hit and miss as the product ages – if you buy and like the Mico, buy a supply of early run pods and avoid potential QC shortcomings. The mesh pod seems to offer better life than the regular pod, but try to stick with ejuice with less sweetener to prolong pod life.

Is it the best pod vape out there? Probably not, but the 0.8 makes this a worthwhile system for a little higher mg traditional nic ejuice.
