Honest review time: The AT Starter Kit from Teslacigs

Here’s a look at a very compact little starter kit sent over from the wonderful folks over at Buybest. It’s made by Teslacigs but I’m unsure if it’s officially been launched yet and even on Buybest it seems to be in pre-order. If you’ve ever held a Teslacigs device you know that quality construction is something they are known for and with the Tesla AT starter kit they don’t make any exceptions. Here are my honest thoughts on the Tesla AT Starter kit care of BuyBest!

Packaging and contents:

The kit comes packed in a clean white cardboard box with an image of the kit on the front and a listing of the contents on the back. Inside the kit is safely packed and comes along with the AT starter Mod, the AT starter tank, a micro USB cable for charging, a spare glass tube, a spare 1.0ohm coil, a packet of spare orings and a user manual and QC card. It comes with everything you’d need to get started along with a few handy extras like the spare glass and orings.

The mod:

The AT starter mod is tiny. It’s one of the smallest mods I own that isn’t an actual pod mod. It stands a mere 52mm tall not including the tank and drip tip, is just 41mm wide and 22mm thick. When holding it in your hand it’s not much bigger than a Zippo lighter and it feels heavy and substantial like one too. It uses what is often referred to as a side by side configuration in which the tank sits side by side with the battery. In many devices it helps reduce the overall height since the atomizer doesn’t have to sit on top of the battery. Speaking of batteries the AT starter kit sports an internal 900mAh battery which on this little device lasts quite a while. Of course that will vary with the coils you pair it with and since it’s a direct output device your experience can decline a bit as the battery level drops. Most likely you’ll hardly notice before it hits the low battery cut off but it should be mentioned.

On the top of the device there is a hole that your tank sits in. The atomizer is held in place with a magnetic connection and the tank that it comes with matches up to it with a magnetic base. There are also notches on the bottom of the tank that line up with notches in the mod to lock it in place and keep it from spinning around. Unfortunately the base is proprietary so you can’t use the mod or tank with any other device or atomizer. I would have liked to see a 510 threaded adapter that would let you use the mod with other tanks or the tank have a threaded base so you can use it with other devices but as it stands you’ll be stuck using the tank that comes with the kit. A little window on both sides of the lets you see how much liquid remains in your tank. One thing to note is when popping in the tank sometimes it doesn’t line up quite right and you need to sort of turn it around and wiggle it to lock it in place otherwise it won’t connect with the mod. When it first arrived I thought there was a problem with it but after a bit of fiddling I was able to make the connection.

On one side of the device it sports the company logo Teslacigs and just below it is the micro USB port for charging. When tested it charged around 0.7A and took a little over an hour to fully charge. On the outer edge of the device is a dark plastic fire button that lights up when you press it and when it charges. Aside from a few CE markings on the bottom it’s a pretty nondescript little device that feels well made and very solid in hand.

The tank:

The AT tank that accompanies the kit is also very compact. It stands about 38mm tall not including the drip tip and is only 18mm in diameter. It’s made of stainless steel and the 510 drip tip that comes with the kit is also made of metal to match the look of the tank. It’s comfortable enough and the device doesn’t tend to get hot so I’ve been comfortable using the one it comes with.

It only holds about 1.5ml of liquid but it comes equipped with 1ohm coils and is meant for high-resistance low power vaping so that 1.5ml tends to last quite a while. It’s a pretty standard looking tank with three little holes at the bottom on each side which provide airflow. There isn’t any way to adjust it though so what it gives is what you get. By default it gives a fairly loose mouth to lung hit. It’s bottom fill and topping it up is a bit old school and requires you unscrew the tank from the base and fill it up around the coil. As I mentioned it comes with a proprietary magnetic base so it can’t be used with any other mods that I know of. Luckily the coils it uses are Nautilus style so you at least will have options when it comes to coils.

Overall:

I think it’s an interesting little kit that will definitely appeal to some folks. While it does have some pretty limiting features like no airflow adjustment and a small capacity tank I think it’s compact and solid nature will still appeal to many. I personally have been quite content with it’s stock airflow and tremendous battery life and it’s been a perfect little companion with the salt based liquids I’ve been using in it. The flavour you get from it will greatly depend on the coils you use but the 1ohm coils it comes paired with were quite decent and it performed as well or better when I popped in some of the new Nautilus coils. For me it’s compact solid build quality has had it going with me all over so I’d have no trouble giving this one a thumbs up for any folks looking for a compact device much like a pod mod but with the ability to change coils and more than adequate battery life.
